Tuesday I hiked up the Botenburg Butte, a 900' hill in the Matanuska Valley north of Anchorage. The trail near the bottom was dusty like the surface of the moon must be. Pogo, a toy poodle with our group, ran in circles in the dust and turned from white to gray. The views were spectacular on the way up, and the 360-degree view from the top was worth the 55-minute climb. We had lunch at the top, then headed down.
