And now for some serious stuff...as a long term survivor and an activist/volunteer with the ACS, I present to you John Hopkins latest findings on cancer (lower case "c" cuz I hate this BASTARD DISEASE) - please read to the bottom of the article, you will find some excellent prevention advice:
JOHN HOPKINS-LATEST FINDINGS ON CANCER
AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY AND ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHN HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY .
1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.
2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.
3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
5 To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size . However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.
CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal,Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in color. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.
b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastrointestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk cancer cells are being starved.
c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.
d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruit help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).
e. Avoid coffee, tea, a and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.
12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrefied and leads to more toxic build-up.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted anted, or unneeded cells.
15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, resentment, and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.
CANCER UPDATE FROM JOHN HOPKIN S HOSPITAL , U S A
1. No plastic containers in micro.
2. No water bottles in freezer.
3. No plastic wrap in microwave.
Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well.
Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer.
Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies.
Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.
Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers.
This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else.
Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.
Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

Thanks for sharing. All of the different medical pronouncements seem to end up contradicting one another at some time. And then is always the issue, I'm going to die some day anyway. Shouldn't I enjoy my vices along the way? No coffee - omg- the sun won't shine in the morning.
As always, you leave a guy thinking.

Thank you, Rose, for sharing this important information! Johns Hopkins is a leading cancer treatment hospital! The link between plastic and the microwave oven has been around for quite some time but, there are still many people who don't know about it! Eating healthy is always a good idea, too!
thank you for sharing, my friend!

This article is very good.. thanks for posting it. I just returned home last week after spending a month in GA with my Mom who was diagnosed on June 9 with small cell carcinoma , a very aggressive lung cancer. She never left the hospital and passed away on June 29. I, too, hate this disease. She was only 70 years old ...active and relatively healthy until just before the diagnosis. I am still in shock.
I had hoped to get her started on some of the nutritional therapies mentioned her... had even purchased herbs and started experimenting with foods I thought I could get her to eat that are healthier. I never got the chance to even try. The one round of Chemo they did before I got there, so compromised her that she developed pneumonia and died.
I sincerely hope people will begin to look on food as medicine rather than a way to titillate their senses. We should all Eat to Live rather than living to eat.
As to John's comment about we all have to die.... I guess he never watched a loved one die from cancer....I hope he never has to.

Yes, tThanks so Much for the ingo. While we all now much of this, I know I am guilty of forgoing many of the tips and warnings for the sake of convenience and time. I have lost both parents, 3 grandparents and MANY friends (as young as 30 ) to different C's , and now am facing down my 3rd decision to fight medically or spitually. I, to am cutting and pasting and will try to be much smarter, if only to teach my younger nieces and nephews by example. The weight loss, thoug I cannot take any credit for it, seems to be motivating me to ramp up my "health regimen". It's never too late to try, even if it is, to make a difference. Good info, good work, Thanks, so much. L

LOL Geez, I just read my last post to you IR. I was sure it hadn't reached my brain yet, but who could tell ? I must have just banged it out and hit send without looking back. Who cares, I am sure one can read between the mess. I just didn't want anyone to think I went and got all drunked up while proclaiming to try a healthier style life. Just a messy typist. L

Obviously, it is very difficult for my doctors to gauge if my longevity has been attributable to my long term severe dietary, exercise and supplemental routines. But, this I do know with certainty, the traumatic experiences associated with having been diagnosed, enduring months of uncomfortable treatments and having to go through many years of post arrest screenings convinced me quite some time ago that I needed to be proactive about maintaining my health to the best of my ability, despite the inconvenience and sometimes, the expense. Juicing is time consuming - locating organic vegetables and fruits difficult at times and it is a given that they are more expensive than standard produce by unit - and as a single person who works full time and adjunctly works her own business, frankly, the last thing I want to do at the end of a long day is prepare a meal for myself, but I do - and maybe all this effort and expense will be for not in the long run, but it gives me a good presence of mind to know that I am eating healthfully and the prep time also gives me a mental break - and both of these factor into the reduction of my daily stress levels. Consistant exercise is also something I have embraced - and the benefits associated with working out frequently has been a known for many years. As I approach my late middle years now, I hope I can maintain this level of effort - my joints are already starting to feel the wear and tear - but, I tell you what, I AM NOT going to give cancer any reason to take up residence in this body again.
CW, my heart goes out to you girl - and I am sending my prayers for you and for your sister skyward - I very much hope that your tests come out negative - you are one incredibly brave lady to have endured two onsets and now facing a third. Please know that I am at your disposal if you would like to talk - I'm not always be available, but I will get back to you as soon as I can - take care of yourself first - Donna

Staying away from extremes has kept me alive. People worry too much about their health. There should be more pain killers given out by doctors to let their patients die with dignity.

Be concerned with and responsible for your own health, yes...worried? no. It is generally accepted that we only have one life to live, and do I want to live my later years in a sickly or less than optimal manner due to practicing poor lifestyle habits?... absolutely NOT. And I don't necessarily advocate the extreme lifestyle habits that I have adopted, however, I have done so to promote my own longevity...I have become rather attached to this plain of consciousness and I'd like to stick around for a few more years...without drugs, cuz they have a tendency to make me even more whacky than I am now :)

My life has been affected by cancer as I lost my husband to pancreatic cancer 2 years ago, but you need to be aware that some of the information you have provided is invalid. The Dr. Fujimoto you refer to is not a medical doctor, but a PhD who appeared on a Hawaiian news show in 2002. He is not affliated with John Hopkins. Here is a link to Snopes with the information: view link
