The water color washes couldn't seem to hold the saturation I like, so I hit it again with Acrylic Washes

without obvious support, the falling figure begs for rescue . . . intended or not, a very effective treatment for provoking in the viewer a tactile sense of reaching out to touch/grasp/support the floating figure . . . colors are intriguing . . .

Wow! You have a very articulate way of stating what I was only half aware of. When I draw this model she usually is just amused at my struggles, and annoyed that I can't get things "right" every time. So in painting over a quick pen and ink sketch I had the time to really concentrate on softening the flesh tone and delineating the interior spaces of the figure. In the end the pink sheets did set up what I thought was a floating feeling, but I like your falling/rescue observation much more.
