Richardson Boys and Baby Fox

July 1903 the Richardson boys dug up a fox hole and found these baby fox, then just had to go to town and get their picture took in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Wish I still had that old 12 guage pump Browning now.

I think that's part of my point here, they were not worried about their 401Ks, retirement, or bailouts. They didn't even worry about the varmints that were killing their chickens, just put them in a sack and sling it into the river. Simpler times and easier solutions, there were no bleeding heart liberals to enact some random act of socialism.

If people today were transported back to this era they'd be completely lost. Having practical skills and knowledge was all-important. . . . I doubt these fellows put the foxes back in their hole, Rose. They may have let them mature a little before skinning them and selling their pelts. LOL. But that was life back then.

Wonder why it meant so much to them that they took the time to go into town and have a photo made to remember the event? Obviously this was a work day. Never seen a photo like this, thanks for sharing.

I guess I would have just starved to death in those days! I would have been one to sneak to their camp and turn anything loose I saw trapped. Then they would have skinned me alive! LOL

Maybe, just maybe this was the inspiration for Disney's the Fox and the Hound. They are cute aren't they?

I had a ranch with many animals I had to protect from time to time...I did my best to give the animal a chance but a couple I had no choice...I felt bad at first...I'm the girl who brings broken little stray's home to fix and release...got some scares to prove it *grin*... but when you have to choose between a new born calf and his mother desperately trying to fend off a pack...you have no choice.

All that just to say ....cool picture Center....lol
