since I used to be owned by several afghan hounds, I composed a photo of my first one (Shakespeare) running.... with a wave breaking beach scene I had played around with at Walker's Point. Then for energy and direction, added the dalmation carefully and slowly because since they're white it was hard to delineate the shadows.. and I really messed up on the tail, so I cropped it before uploading it here. I started it the day I announced the exercise, and just finished it... oil pastels and layered colored pencils... 18 x 20 on canvas...
I can see why Shakespeare owned you... what a beautiful dog! There is nothing more beautiful to me than a dog running free like that. Accompanied by his friend the dalmation I would love to be inside that head. Thank you for sharing it.
in a watercolor, I'd have masked out the crest of the wave, then gone back in and highlighted the action with with a 07 brush using washes of blue and grey and green mixed with china white. with the oil pastels, I spray fixitive between colors.
well folks, I changed it... the dalmation is now a greyhound named Mattie, and I added a german shepard named Gunther. and I took suzie's advice and... you'll just have to wait.

In a watercolor would you leave it unpainted?
