Zebras - Scratchboard - 81/2" X 11"

I've been meaning to try the scratchboard technique for some time, so this is a 1st attempt. I used my jackknife for most of it...after checking local art suppliers for the proper tools. I still don't know what I should use for tools???

I used to file my mother's knitting needles for broad strokes and glued a common pin to the end of a wooden dowel for detail... didn't realize they still made scratchboard... used it a lot in the Navy... eons ago. nice zebras Urban. those old needles used to keep that frog splayed out in bio class worked also.

Great job, Urban. Looks like the jackknife worked very well for you.

Very nice Urban! I think I've only tried the scratchboard once years ago. I do remember it was fun!

I love it!
What a great idea to use it for the July challenge! It lends itself very well to the zebras!

Wonderful work. I imagine anything the created what you want is a good tool, as long as you enjoy it.

Very nice, Urban. I can't even think of using something with no eraser or edit undo.

Nice job Urby. I too did some scratch board in the military in the early 60s. I liked it, don't know why I stopped.

Sorting old catalogs I found Blick art materials has two different scratch pens.
