High school students in this photo are working on a study of grey whales, being conducted by Dr. William Megill of the University of Bath in England. Dr. Megill is studying whale feeding habits at both ends of their yearly migration, and the impact varying prey abundance has on the whales.
The students do the same work as adult volunteers - in this case, going out to the whales' feeding ground with researchers, spotting, identifying and mapping whales, as well as using sonar and underwater video to map the whales' prey.
