John Rollino, coral bleaching

Comments

John Rollino, senior ecologist at Earth Tech, Inc., studies coral reef health and coral bleaching in the Caribbean with the help of Earthwatch volunteers.

Coral bleaching occurs when the living coral polyps expel algae. This is caused by environmental stresses such as ocean water warming.

As John says, "The decline of elkhorn and staghorn corals is likely the symptom of a problem that is impacting coral reefs around the world – that problem is global warming."
