Job sharing occurs when two individuals do the equivalent work of one full-time job. The job share team forms a partnership and provides service to clients, colleagues, and managers as if it were one person filling the job role. Often employees who job share will overlap part of their weekly schedule to update each other on projects and current work. In some cases where there are valuable complementary skills, the job share team may perform at higher levels than would be expected of each person individually. Job sharing can be a strategy to retain valuable workers who need flexibility in their schedules.
