A career transition is a change in your work or profession. Major career transitions involve significant changes in your field, such as a payroll manager who decides to become a social worker. Other career transitions are incremental, building on past skills and experiences. An example is making a career move from individual expert to manager, such as a Web-designer becoming communication director. Still other career transitions have less to do with changing your profession, and more to do with just changing your work setting. An example is a human resources specialist with 15 years in financial services making a switch to the health care industry. See "Change happens, ready or not."
