weather widget

What's a widget? A widget is a miniature computer program that sits on your profile. Widgets can have functionality like a calendar or clock, or real information like the weather or news, or a widget can be a game. They are popular on MySpace.com profile pages and on many blogs on the Internet.

It can be a little confusing to post your first widget, so if the idea of finding web-based code online and pasting into your widgets page gives you a headache, you're in good company.

Our advice is to keep an eye out on other Eons members' profile pages, especially computer savvy members. They will quickly pick up on this new widget feature, importing the text (or "code") themselves, and displaying all sorts of fun widgets. But all you have to do is "grab" what you like for your own Profile page.

Getting 'myWeather' widget on your Profile

The following are instructions on how to get a weather widget. By doing this, you can learn the general procedure for getting web-based widgets online and adding them to you Profile page.

  1. Go to this page on Google.com.
Click the button labeled, "Add to your web page."

  2. Indicate your desired settings (this is where you are "Customizing" the widget to your own location).

  3. Resize the widget border to eliminate the scroll bar if necessary.

  4. Click the "Get the Code" button.

  5. Below this button, the widget's "code" will appear.

  6. Now copy that code.

  7. Next, go to your Profile page on Eons (be sure you're logged in). In the top block of your Profile is an option "Edit my widgets." Click on that option. It will take you to a page that has a field labeled "Widget text" underneath the heading "Add a new Widget".

  8. Paste the widget code you copied from Google into the "Widget text" box" After you have pasted the code, click the "Add widget" button below the field.

Your very own weather widget will now appear on your profile page!

To find other widgets, or "gadgets," run online searches for things like "Web-based gadgets," "Web-based widgets," "Web-based google gadgets," and so forth. One great page to find all sorts of widgets can be found by clicking here.

We hope you find lots of fun stuff!

Posting a video to your Profile

Eons does not host videos, and that means that in order for you to add a video to your Profile page, the video must be "hosted," or saved, elsewhere on the Internet. Many people use YouTube for this purpose. The address for YouTube is http://www.youtube.com/

To add a video to you Profile that is hosted somewhere else on the Internet:

  1. Log into your Eons account.
  2. Go to your Profile page.
  3. Scroll down the page until you see the "Video" heading on the left side.
  4. Click the "Edit My Videos" link.
  5. Follow the instructions from there to link a video to your Profile page.
