How to BOOM it! on Eons

What is BOOM it!?

Imagine, for a moment, that you had the power to decide which articles, blogs, discussions, photos and videos would be featured on the Eons home page. Imagine no longer. As an Eons member, you already have that power.

The Eons BOOM it!! feature lets you share your favorite features -- news, great conversations in groups, inspirational blogs, fabulous photos and funny videos - and then cast votes (BOOMs) to help your favorite features climb the charts, as it were, to the Most Popular list.

In the process, you help make the ever-expanding content on Eons.com, and the Web as a whole, easier for Eons members to find and enjoy.

How BOOM it! works

Everything on Eons -- articles, group posts, blogs, photos and videos -- can be BOOMed by our Eons community. Features that are BOOMed the first time will appear on the homepage tab "Most recent." It's simple: See something you like? Just click the BOOM it!! box next to the headline.

When you do that, you are casting a vote,. When other members do the same, the feature begins to gain momentum. A computer algorithm factors in not only the BOOMs, but how often the article is read, commented on, and emailed to a friend. With enough BOOMs (from votes, readings, comments and emails), the feature could make it to the "Most Popular" list. There it will be read by even more members, who in turn can BOOM it!, thereby keeping it front and center as something valued and recommended by Eons members.

How to BOOM it!

To participate, you must be logged in. Then, any time you see the BOOM it! button on an article or blog or other feature you like, click it and you will have BOOMed the feature. (Note: Your BOOM will also show up in your Profile under "Rated links" so your friends can what you've found interesting.)

If you are BOOMing a feature that has already been BOOMed, all you have to do is click the BOOM it! button and your vote will be registered.

If you are the first member to BOOM a feature, you will be asked to provide some information about the feature so others know what it is. (Note: The form looks a little intimidating the first time you see it, but it's not difficult to complete.)

Give the item you're BOOMing a title and a brief description. Then check the category that you think it belongs in. Hit "Submit your link" and voilà, you've BOOMed it!

Eons Top-Rated

On the homepage of Eons you will find the best of what the Eons Community finds interesting and relevant. These are the articles, group postings, blogs, photos and more that Eons members have rated as excellent on Eons.

Click on "Most popular" to see which content has been most BOOMed, viewed and emailed by Eons members.

Click on "Editor picks" to see which content our editors have discovered, found informative or inspirational, and want to share with you.

Click on "Most recent" to see content that has just been BOOMed.

Share what you discover outside Eons

If you find something outside of Eons that you want to share with the community, bring it on in! Share links to other Websites with the Eons community by clicking "Share a link on Eons." Write a short description about the content you're bringing in and why you found it interesting, and then submit it. It will become a "Most Recent" selection and give other Eons members a chance to read it and BOOM it!

A little more about Sharing Links on Eons

Why?
Eons is about sharing the best 50+ information on the Web. Sharing links allows Eons members to have access to the most relevant information, whatever its source.

How?
Eons members can share links in two ways:

1. The "easy way":
Wherever you see the "Share a link on Eons," just click and follow the instructions. There you will be asked to provide a link to the content and a brief description of the feature so others know what it is. (As noted above, don't let the form intimidate you; it's not hard to do.)

To find the "Share a link on Eons," go to the Eons homepage and click on the "view all" button on any of the three Top-Rated sections. The link will be in the upper right section of the page and look like this:

2. Put it in your Toolbar:
You can easily install the "Share on Eons" browser toolbar button that allows you to share links directly from another site. When you find something interesting on the Web, simply click on this toolbar button and it will automatically bring the link onto Eons.

To place the "Share on Eons" toolbar button on your browser, just drag the link below that matches up with your browser to the browser's toolbar:
