Posting messages and getting responses from other members is what the Eons community is all about. It's really easy to get started!
First, be sure you are a registered Eons member. If you have not yet joined, follow the steps outlined in "How to sign up to be an Eons member".
Then follow these simple steps:
1. Go to the group where you want to join a discussion, or find a group from the Eons group directory.
2. Register to join the group. Click "Join Group" in the group description box found at the top center of the page OR click "Join the group" (below "Recent messages"). Either action will take you to a page that says "Please join this group." These options are boxed in red in the graphic to the left.
3. Choose whether you want to keep up with the group by e-mail.
4. Click on "Join group." This takes you back to the group's home page, where you will now see your name on a list of group members. You'll be invited to send a message to the group introducing yourself.
5. Post a message. You can reply to an existing message by clicking the gold "Reply" bar. Or you can "Post a new message" from the top center of the page. Either option takes you to a "Post a message" page.
6. Fill in the "Subject" and "Your message" forms. (Note: If you clicked a "Reply" bar, the "subject" field will be filled in already.)
7. Click "Preview" to see how your message looks. If you want to change your message before posting it, click "Edit" and make the changes.
8. Click "Post" when you are satisfied with your message.
Congratulations! You just posted your first message.
Tips
- Once you join a group, check back regularly for responses to your message. And think about posting a reply or starting a new line of discussion.
- To quit a group go to the group's home page, look in the column to the left, and click on "Member preferences." On the new page click "Leave the Group").
- More people will see your message if you "Post a new message" rather than "Reply" to an existing message (See Step 5 above.) If you want your "new message" to look like a "reply" to an existing message, just write "Re:" and the title of the existing message in the "subject" field. For instance, if you are writing a reply to "When can I retire?" you would write "Re: When can I retire?" in the subject field.
