Places I've been
I've lived in in Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, llinois, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Georgia, Washington, Oregon and California. I have visited all (including Alaska and Hawaii), but a handful of states. Vacationed extensively in British Columbia, especially the Sunshine Coast. Have been to England and Ireland three times, Scotland once. Also, Paris and the French countryside. Recently (2008) took a cruise that took us in or near Barcelona (spent two days here), Monte Carlo, Florence, Rome, Sorrento, Dubrovnik, Split, Koper (Slovenia) and Venice. We also stayed in Bassano del Grappa for a few days in Italy.

More about me

My username kind of says it all. I love to travel: wander the back roads and immerse myself (as much as possible) into the culture of a place. And, I love to write.

While the bulk of my past professional background has been sales, I found my true calling when I quit my relatively lucrative job to jump from part time writer into the unknown world of a full time freelancer while continuing to work on short stories and a novel. It happened shortly after the terrorist attacks in 2001. I was in the middle of making travel arrangements to attend a sales meeting in the South. This sales meeting would have entailed role-playing, a lot of hoop-la and motivational rhetoric. As I was about to click on the “purchase ticket” icon, I hesitated, then went ahead and clicked. Nothing happened. I did that three times and realized ‘someone’ was trying to tell me something. So I listened and asked to be laid-off. (They were downsizing anyway.)

Since then I’ve been poorer, happier and inspired—most of the time. I write a monthly column for a weekly regional paper, short stories and have four novels started; one will be finished by December. (I have to put that in writing or I will procrastinate.) To earn $$ (and so my husband will stop giving me that look), I freelance. I write real estate articles for a national real estate publication, travel articles for a hospitality magazine and have done some marketing pieces for various companies. And, I was Director of the Gig Harbor Writers’ Conference for four years.

On the personal side, I have three grown children and five grandchildren. My youngest son just got married this summer, so we are truly empty-nesters. I'm a Midwesterner in my sole, though I now live in the Pacific Northwest--which I do love!

My dreams are to publish my novel and continue to travel.
