Places I've been: I've been living in Bangkok, Thailand for the past 23 years. I burn sapphires and mine stones in Sri Lanka and Africa. When I got seperated from my Thai wife 12 years ago, I gave her my jewelry company which is the second largest in Thailand because I knew she would use the assets to make sure my son and daughter got a good education. Too bad about the house, I really liked designing it back in 1985 in a jungle type setting with fountains, ponds and such.I don't know many Americans these days and just thought it would be fun to talk to someone my own age that I could converse in English rather than Thai!
More about me: Well "Happycricket", my newest friend said I have to elaborate a bit about myself. OK, I'm new here so here goes...This is not usual growing up...I left home at seventeen cause I couldn't put up with family politics. I got to college on my own and had a great Thai girlfriend who took me home. I expanded the family's horizons about how to make money and after, got in response everything I wanted. They sent me to school for another 6 years to get a couple of masters and 4 bachelor degrees. Then I worked for the Thai Government as an adviser in Japan. Then they got into the gemstone business and I was the front for that. (They tried to get me thru law school, but I hated that and just worked in computers instead). I had them their own dot.com but, got out early. The mining business was better even though there was the Tamil threat. Guns in the face every day, just give them some stones to trade for food and they left you alone. I just got financed for whatever I wanted as long as I made money for them. Back then, Thais didn't know about the outside world.
Then when I split with my wife twelve years ago over local "family politics", I just do what I like. I like that I still act like a kid. Helps having saved everything. I do get a bit nervous sometimes diving in deep water or hiking inland to salmon or trout fish on some mountain in New Zealand or in the woods of Alaska, but hey, life's cool if you don't let anyone else regulate it or tell you what to do.
