More about me

Capricorn (1/6/42), though I don't follow astrology. Lawyer since 11/71, legal services, mental health law, juvenile law, law school clinical program for mentally retarded (back then), private practice since 1982. Struggling now because I failed to make a lot of money when I started out, which was 3 years later than my law school classmates due to my Peace Corps service. My tendency to take clients who could not afford the expensive downtown lawyers did not help. Both of my wives (one at a time!) left me because I was not making enough money for them, and both went to Florida when they left me. I have not bothered to get a divorce from my second wife yet (2 1/2 years).

I have always been interested in science and technology, wanted to be the first man in space in high school, though my yearbook comment was, "He would rather be right than be President." I did dabble in working for political campaigns, especially for Ed Brook, and data gathering as stringer for the Boston Globe and other papers at polling places.

I love classical music - no, not the Beatles, the real oldies like Mozart and beethoven. Used to go to Tanglewood every summer with friends. No money for that anymore!

I used to read a lot, but not as much any more. I used to walk a lot, but not as much any more. I used to know all the big movie stars, not as many any more. Amazing what aging really does to your world, especially if you rely on Social Security.

Did I mention I have a dry sense of humor and I love to laugh?

I don't mind, but I don't see change coming. Obama is a lot more cautious and conventional than his language, and has surrounded himself so far with people who got us into this situation. People forget that Clinton ruined a lot of programs in the US for the poor, including the working poor, and failed to reform health care. We would be in a very different place now if he had been less Reagan and more FDR. Just having strong people doesn't mean they will be strong for real change.
