I have lived in New York---Manhattan, Brookyn, and currently the Bronx, for 37 years, so while I am not a native New Yorker, I am a citzen. Grew up in California; left at 17 for college. Besides New York, I have lived in LA (as an adult for 1 year), Chicago, Denver, Boscobel, Wisconsin, and a small village in Italy (Liguria).

I live in a sprawling loft in the South Bronx otherwise known as SoBro, or historically as Mott Haven. From here I operate an independent book producing company, specializing in high-quality illustrated natural history books. My wife (and business partner) of 28 years died four years ago. As anyone who has experienced this kind of loss knows, it is not something that you can plan for. The grieving came in waves, which in the beginning at times literally knocked me off my feet. With time the intense grieving has receded, and recently I found myself feeling that I was beginning to have a life again. I am writing a book---my third large scale writing project---entitled THE PERSISTENCE OF MEMORY. It’s about forgiveness or unforgiveness. I think it contains the best writing I have ever done, so we shall see. Although born and raised in California, I have lived in New York for over half my life---mostly Manhattan, but also Brooklyn and for the last 9 months the Bronx.
Besides writing, I like to read, go dancing (zydeco and West Coast Swing), hike, hear live jazz, canoe, backpack with my brothers in the Sierras every fall, visit the museums and art galleries in the city, and wander the streets of New York sucking up the amazing energy this city emits day and night.
I enjoy my life in the city and am increasingly dedicated to writing my book, which currently runs to 26,000 words, with, say another 20,000 words to go. It will be over when it is over. Then I have two more I want to write…I tell myself at age 65, I better get busy.
