More about me

Although others consider me as having a bubbly outgoing personality, I think of myself as shy until I get to know you.  Then anything goes.  My friends find me to be "too honest" in my observations and opinions.  Living in the South I am to soften my words so as not to offend, even though not truthful.

I sing in our church choir and assist at "The Ministries" two half-days.  We are a multi-church affiliated group supplying free food, clothing, toys, linens and other assorted items as needed.

I hope to begin travelling to those places I've only dreamed about.

Hi - well I've travleled a lot as a single woman and have found that it's completely safe - assuming that we don't do stupid things (and we don't anyway, do we?) - My best solo trip was 3 weeks in Australia a few years ago while in my 60's. I met many people as I went along my planned itinerary and there really was never a time when the aAssies didn't come up to me and ask me if they could help me find something, etc. I was invited for dinner, sat-with over lunch, chatted-up during a cruise on Sydney Harbor and even ended up sleeping in a tent for 3 nights with 2 gay guys and a man from S. Africa ...while on a safari through the outback, heading from Darwin in the Northern Territory to Alice Springs. At that time I assured my family that I wouldn't do stupid stuff, would arrange tours when I reached my hotels and gave them lots of information about where I was going and what I planned to do (generally). Overall, I had a great time, met lots of people including many others traveling alone, but yes, absolutely there were times when I was tired and a bit tearful and questioned my sanity but I learned more about myself and the Australians than I ever would have if I had traveled the easy way... in the company of another person. That was a few years ago. Today, I coordinate Worldly Women Journeys and take small groups of women around the world, women who have a love of travel but women who otherwise wouldn't have anyone with whom to share the experience ...women who are reluctant to do what we do...travel alone. It does take a bit of self reliance and courage, but I was proud of myself for doing it and grateful that I jumped out of my comfort zone and took a risk. For what it's worth. S.
