Places I've been

Grew up in a perfect small town with 6 geat brothers and sisters and caring parents. We got to do a lot of things that most people don't, so i had a very fortunate youth. Went to college in western PA, W & J College. Was one of the last people to serve in Vietnam, where I commanded an LSD (Large Steel Desk). I was very fortunate to stay out of harm's way and grew to love the area, traveled to Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia. Golf and skiing are my favorite things to do and they have provided some great travel experiences in the U.S. and Europe. My 3 brothers and I took our father to play golf in Ireland for his 75th birthday, 16 years ago, and that is a lifetime highlight. Went back with my buddies this past September, that is about as good as it gets. My children are in college and medical school so my lovely wife and I have been empty nesters for a while, and enjoying it.

My screen name, somewhat hip, is the family joke. I made the mistake of telling my then 21 year old daughter as the lead in to some comment that "I considered myself somewhat hip, but...". That's all it took to get a nickname - imagine someone born in 1948 thinking they were somewhat hip!!!

After retiring from a family publishing business in 2006 I have set out to rediscover myself. Retirement is great - if someone calls and needs a tennis or golf partner, or my wife wants me to join her on a trip - I'm available. I have also poured myself into a new business - www.topretirements.com. It's a site for baby boomers where they can read interesting reviews of the best places to retire - such as college towns, best active adult communities, etc. Check it out, it's my labor of love.
