I have been hesitating and putting this off, but after reading some of the other posts and fortified with a bottle of wine, I feel I can do this, so here goes.

I am a 64 yr old widower,  I was married for 40 years to the same woman.  I probably was not a perfect husband but we always were able to work things out. 

My wife died July 9, 2002, this was not a surprise, she had been terminally sick with cancer since 1998 but it still was a shock to me.  I never realized how much I would miss her. I have 2 children and 4 grandchildren.  My daughter is married and has 2 kids (girl & boy)  and she and her husband live in Beaverton, Oregon.  My son, his wife and 2 girls live here in Santa Clara, CA about 3 blocks from me.

I got married at 19. Many people did not think it would last. I guess we showed them.  After several dead end jobs I found out about  Real Estate.  I started as an agent showing pink bathrooms and yellow kitchens to housewives.  It did not take me long to figure out that the way to make money in this biz is to buy and remodel your own properties.  I did that for many years and happily my son has taken up the task.  It is not his main income but he sees the potential and is good at it.  I dare say he is better than me.  It makes his old man proud and happy. Now my life is on hold.  I sort of drift through days upon days.  By this time my wife and I had planned to do some traveling and enjoying the hard work we put in.  Didn't happen. I always had goals in my life, but frankly at this time I have no goals.  It bothers me sometimes but I cannot think of what I may want to do.  I joined a senior center to exercise and maybe meet people but they are so damn old. I don't know if I have anything in common with them.
