Attorney Petow was formerly a Staff Attorney in the Office of Hearings and Appeals/Office of Disability Adjudication and Review of the Social Security Administration, Boston, Massachusetts District
Attorney Petow previously maintained a general civil practice in Somerville and Arlingtion in areas of real estate, consumer rights, landlord-tenant law, family law, wills and trusts, probate, bankruptcy and taxes. Prior to working for the Social Security Administration, she was employed by the Internal Revenue Service.

Attorney Petow was appointed by Mayor Eugene C. Brune and served from January, 1980, through August, 1984, as an Assistant City Solicitor, in Somerville. From August, 1984, to November, 1985, she was a member of the Board of Election Commissioners, in Somerville, where she was elected chairperson.
