More about me

A former teacher and college prof, I'm now disabled but hoping to return to teaching at some time in the future. I've taught English to all grades from sixth to college. For high school and college I've also taught Humanities, journalism and photography. Teaching is what I enjoy most in life (other than being a mother) and it's what I do best.

I'm seven years divorced and mother of a handsome 20-year-old son and beautiful 18-year-old daughter. My babies now are my puppies and our kitty. We all live together in a comfy little house in Kansas. I'm an Okie by birth and plan to end up back there eventually in Tulsa or Tahlequah.

For entertainment I like to go to movies, concerts and bowling, attending sports events and reading. I used to enjoy camping, canoeing, backpacking, fishing, but my disability prevents me from doing those outdoor sports. I hope that changes soon. I love to travel and haven't done nearly enough of that in my life.

At home I do crafts like crocheting, drawing, scrapbooking, cross stitching, just about anything I can do without a sewing machine. As soon as I get one of those, there'll be no stopping me.

I follow current events. Being a journalist, I like to watch how the pros do it. I've written several articles and produced many, many newspapers. Desktop publishing is lots of fun.

Animal welfare and prevention of animal cruelty is my crusade. I'm a foster parent for the national Toy Fox Terrier club and run a yahoo group for the advancement of the breed. I promote responsible pet ownership and support our local humane society shelter with donations and volunteering.

I enjoy classic rock, 80s rock, hair bands of the early 90s, boy bands of the late 90s, and country music is okay if I'm in the mood, but I hate those dopey sad songs. Anything Carrie Underwood sings is on my Top Ten list. Reggae's great when the mood strikes, mahn. Concerts! Last one I attended was Rascal Flatts in KC. I went to Memphis a couple years ago to hear some of the best blues on the planet. Hmmm, been to Tulsa Opera several times and actually sang in a couple myself! My musical appetite is pretty eclectic.

I mostly read classics like Frankenstien, Mutiny on the Bounty, Catcher in the Rye, 1984, A Tale of Two Cities, etc... Being an English teacher, I've always felt I should know all those old classics and I really do enjoy reading them.
