Places I've been
Yikes! They sucked my history OFF!! So, here we go again... I LOVE to TRAVEL! I LOVE to see what the locals see! I LOVE to do what the locals do! I even passed up a Tapas Bar in Madrid, Spain because I wanted to ride the bus with the locals! Then we found a wonderful bar in the Theatre District where it was just us, me, my husband and 2 friends, all evening ALONE with the bar owner. What a GREAT TIME we had! And OH the SANGRIA he made SPECIAL just for us! I've been to all states west of the Mississippi except North Dakota and Nebraska. East of the big muddy, I've been to NY, PA, GA, LA, MS, AL, NC, SC, CT, OH, IN, IL, WIS, MI, MD, VA, DEL. In Europe I've been to Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, Austria, Belaric Islands. In the Orient I've been to Hong Kong, mainland China. Travel with us thru our travel site [uniquetravelops.com]!
More about me

WE BOUGHT A TRAVEL BUSINESS!  CHECK US OUT AT [UniqueTravelOPS.com] ! Thank you! Check my blog for 10 Oct 07 - I was my own first customer 'cause our price was lowest!

I was born in Illinois. Lived in Missouri. Then moved to Southern California before I was 11. I'm a big city girl at heart. My husband is a native of southwest Arizona so we moved here to his birth place almost 12 years ago. The Wild West is NOT Dead! And it's filled with scorpions and rattlesnakes!

We have 6 grown children and 8 grandchildren. They're spread all over the US: East (VA & WVA), West (SF & Orange County areas of CA), North (NYC) and South (TX).

I have a BA from the UofCal-Riverside; attended Law School. I received a TBI in a vehicle accident almost 16 years ago. I'm a survivor! TYG!!!

I love to travel and have been to NYC, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Spain, Italy, Canada, Hong Kong, and Main-land China. And Mexico, of course.

Genealogy is my passion! I recently completed a descendant search to help the ggg-gr-son of a 19th century artist who is trying to locate and photograph every painting done by his ancestor.

My computer is my life! I got my first one [a 286] 20 years ago and have all but fallen into it - literally! My husband says he expects to come home from work one day and just see my feet hanging out of the computer monitor. That's a really good one!

We have 2 dogs: Spot, an Italian Greyhound and Tripod, a 3-legged chocolate brown Chihuahua with mini-pin markings.

We're fixing up our house to sell. We're going to move closer to our daughter in NYC. She wants to move out of the city but hasn't decided where to go yet. We looked at Connecticut last October together, but she also wants to check out North Carolina before she makes up her mind.

When the mood strikes me, I write modern day fables and kids stories. Also, poetry - some pretty bad! But it's mine!

Last Christmas I decided it was time to make quilts for the family. Most of the one's I'd made previously for them have been lost or worn out and a few of the grand-kids just plain didn't have a "Grandma-Made" quilt. So I made 18 quilts and got them all delivered! Phew! I don't think I'll try that again anytime soon...

I love music. I used to play guitar and sing. [Not both at the same time - I'm not THAT talented - LOL!] But my singing got me to Spain & Italy.

I'm running out of things to say...

Until next time - love ya, K

* P.S. Here's the link if you'd like to see the quilts. The Big Girls Quilts are the 3 on the right of the top row. http://space-pixie.com/stuff/quilts/index.html

If you'd like to see how I made each of the 3 pre-teen boys quilts special, look here: http://pix-e.com/stuff/quilts/boysbacks.html

* P.P.S. I belong to a monthly potluck group. We each bring a dish, or two, and the recipe. I collect the recipes and put them on a website so the other members can download them later. Sometimes I can't find one of my own recipes - LOL! So, I just go to the website and download it! Most of the recipes are pretty good. Mine are AWESOME! Look for any that start "Ks" or have "Kris" in the title. These I made-up myself. Here's the link: http://tcp.pix-e.com/

* P.P.P.S. I see that I forgot to mention that I was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2003. Had the surgery and chemo. Then my Dr put me on a vegan diet. I took the Cancer Project Cooking Class sponsored by The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. The cooking classes made it possible to completely change my eating habits simply and painlessly. The classes are FREE to anyone who wants to eat more healthfully!

THE MILLIONAIRE MISER NAMED OTTO

Said the millionaire miser named Otto,
"Save a penny a day is my motto."
One terrible May
He blew it away.
And now he depends on the Lotto.

YOUNG MAN FROM THE WEST

There was a young man from the west
Who had a big hole in his chest.
"That", he once said
"Is nothing to dread.
It's the blood on my shirt I detest!"

THE MERDE WORD

He pronounced the "merde*" word as "murd".
By strangers, he didn't want to be heard.
To say it as "mared"
He was frankly too scared
To be accused of doing the word!
(*French word for "ka-ka")

MY HANDS

My hands are much lighter than air.
They seem to flit everywhere.
All they need
Is a suitable deed
To have all the people not stare.

SPEECH (2)

To take speech for granted's absurd.
For now, it produces each word.
But when it is gone,
And remains but a yawn,
The brain still cries to be heard.

MOUTH DOES ITS OWN THING

"I'm still me!" I yell, "Set me free!"
But my voice is all lost - like at sea...
All that comes out
In a terrible shout
Is, "THE SPECIAL TODAY IS ON THREE!"

HANDS ACT LIKE THEY BELONG TO SOMEONE ELSE

The Three Stooges have come to live in my brain.
They direct my hands to all they pertain.
With all that I try,
My hands ask, "Where? Why?"
Then do what Moe and Curly ordain!

FATIGUE

Fatigue's like a thief in the night.
It steals all that could have been right.
When what I might be
Waits on head injury,
Every day's like a dark endless night.

AN UPDATE:

For 2 years after the head injury I had no long- or short-term memory. I couldn't speak more than one word at a time. I couldn't understand what was said to me most of the time.

A year after the accident, I discovered that I could write limericks easily as you can see by the dates of the ones I've posted. So I communicated in limerick form everything that I could no longer express in any other way.

I am 100% disabled because of my memory.

But after 16 years, I'm happy to say that I can speak in full sentences and paragraphs although I still frequently have trouble coming up with a word(s) with which to say what is on my mind.

Thank you for reading my limericks!

OMG. We have so much in common. I read your blog. And I've only made two quilts in my whole life. But I admire your skill. And you joined Hotel California, so I thought I'd drop by and say hi.
