About me
-
Born in the first "Boom" year of 1946. Had an average youth for one born in that era, but always thought a bit independently from everyone else in my family. Perhaps that had to do with having been the 1st-born. Both parents were 1st generation American, my mother, Czech, my father, Italian, one younger brother, none of whom had much of a handle on why I was so off the radar from everyone else. A Beat, a Hippie, a yoga-practicing, peace-loving, 1st-born-over-achieving bundle of contradictions who loves to laugh at having the blues. Tastes - especially in cultures and in music - are about as eclectic as it gets. Live and let live.
-
Married in 1967. Had a problem sharing the same space, so I moved out, but we're always there for each other, and we get along better now. Who said love had to be painful?
-
Worked fulltime from 1965 to 2001, experienced mobility problems and began receiving disability. Still getting around with use of a cane, but moving more slowly than I'm used to. Miss camping and hiking, but currently in the process of recreating and reinventing myself, being grateful for what I can still do, and learning to let go of what I can't. Always looking forward to the next good laugh, the next road trip, or the next Cajun two-step.

Questions & Answers
If you were a contestant on Jeopardy what would be your dream trivia category?
With my memory going, I'd have to say, "Anything I Can Still Remember" - my name and social security number. (Actually, it would probably be something to do with identifying the sounds and indigenous instruments of international folk music - like various drums and percussion instruments, strings, like the barimbao or the shamisen etc.)
Are you looking for a new job?
No, I'm retired
Who are your heroes?
Anyone who fights the good fight, puts the greater good before his/her own. From humanitarians working in dangerous parts of the world, to domestic violence workers to volunteer veterinarians, fire personnel, soup kitchen & homeless shelter workers, etc. My grandparents and all those who left home a century ago hoping to find work and start a better life. Those who have a crisis of faith but persevere. Also, anyone who realizes he is his brother's keeper.
What kind of trip would you love to take in Italy?
Rent an Italian villa with my friends and/or family
What would you buy if money wasn't an object?
Help people in need
Do you think it's a good idea to pay for a child's college education?
Yes, if you can afford it
Who is the most interesting person you have ever met?
There are many interesting people throughout history that I would have liked to have met and perhaps, broken bread with (I have a LONG dinner party guest list). But I'd have to say my dad's brother, my Uncle Fred. He was a big, jovial, witty guy, with as many tragic flaws as brilliant talents. He had a fierce love for three things: his family, his country, and gambling. Above all, his greatest love was for my Aunt Marie.
What organizations do you belong to?
Order of the British Empire. (OK - that's a lie; I just always wanted to say that..."There is nothing like a Dame...")
What is your dream vacation?
Tropical beaches or lush, green mountains, or the hot, dry plains of Southern Spain. Anywhere the temperature stays between 50 and 95 degrees. Cuba, Italy, Spain, Greece, Hawaii, and the Appalachians during the warm and temperate months. NOWHERE COLD!!
