More about me

I am married for 29 years with two grown daughters. My family is solid, supportive, funny and open minded. I will soon be a first time grandmother and can not wait! I have been a school counselor and mental health counselor for years. As I suppose it is with most people, my life experiences have created a complex person. I base my views about life and people based on whom I've met, their trials and tribulations, and what I know Jesus teaches us about how we should treat others. I was raised a Baptist and am consequently deemed conservative in some ways yet quite liberal in others. I do not like either term. In my area we are called the bible buckle south, yet I have met many who claim to be Christians who are some of the most prejudiced, intolerant and selfish people. Those who quietly go about doing God's work and loving others, leaving judgement only to God, are the people I am drawn to and the kind of person I want to be. I was raised in South Georgia during the civil rights era. I saw things my children can not believe I witnessed in my lifetime. Some of those prejudices still abound and I am both amazed at how far we've come and how far we still have to go. My heart hurts when I'm around hateful people. I work a lot with children whose world has been torn apart by their parent's alcohol, drugs and infidelity. I believe this is where the church's focus should be when we worry about the breakdown of marriage and the family. I like to be around people who make me laugh, who love me in spite of my faults, and who truly care for others. With sickness in my family and a heavy-on-the-emotions career, I can be a serious person. I want to take time to have more fun in my life (I do like to dance and have the occasional Margarita!). I like to travel, spruce up my home, spoil my pets and spend time with my funny family. I find most people in this fast paced world just need to connect, and I hope to also connect here with the groups that interest me.
