More about me

I was the third and youngest child born to my parents, on December 23, 1949. I have an older sister and brother who were born in 1944 and 1946, respectively. I grew up in Bath, Maine (home to the great Bath Iron Works Corporation, where my father worked for 18 years after moving from New York City to Bath, Maine in 1945. I saw several ships launched from the B.I.W. over a period of 8 years (1955-1963).

I graduated from Morse High School in my hometown of Bath in June of 1969. I enlisted in the Women's Army Corps in July 1969, and I flew out of the Portland Jetport on September 25, 1969. I went through Basic Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama. What an experience that was! But, I was in the best physical condition of my entire life! I also made my share of friends from all over the United States!  Unfortunately, I was discharged (honorably) from the WACS after serving for three months, due to my inability to adjust to military life after being notified that my 72-year old father's health was very poor, and it was felt that I should return back to Maine to take care of him. I felt incredibly guilty and disappointed that I couldn't adjust to being in the Army. I felt like I not only let my family down, but myself as well. But I will never forget the wonderful and tough experiences that I did encounter!  If I had it to do over again, I would in a heartbeat, and I'd do it better!

I'll have more to add tomorrow, but for now, I have to get some "beauty" sleep!

“Ted, my 6 year old Golden Retriever, passed away last month. He was suffering

from an enlargement of the heart and the treatment required to save him was very

expensive. I simply had no financial support to afford it and Ted paid the price. If

only I was aware about view link maybe Ted would have still

been with me. I hope all pet owners will seriously consider the alternative and get

an insurance cover for their pets, so another Ted somewhere, does not lose his life

due to lack of funds.” - Michael Owens (Ex-dog owner.)

Life is a gamble and what kind of cards you are given is what you have to deal with. If you smile at someone that smile could go around the world. Think of all the people you encounter everyday and the people they encounter and so forth. Smile, you may not feel like it on the outised but may help someone else feel better on the inside.
