Born 11-21-1945
I have been somewhat of a rebel.
My husband and son loved pool so I learned to play. I played in tournaments with only men participating. One player broke his pool cue and left, because they let a woman play. Those tournaments were nerve racking, but challenging. I even won a few. I started on a women's league as player then captain, treasure, and then President. I then helped change the league so that it would it would be combined with a local advertiser and go national.
Our local bass club was for men only but both my husband and son belonged, so I joined. I think I was accepted because of my husband influence. I did well but it was difficult because of the wives, girlfriends, and male resentment. The tournaments were pairs determined by draw. The first tournament my partner insisted I would catch a fish. it started to rain and thunder and boats headed for shore, but not ours. He said we would stay out until I caught a fish. Thank God I did as lightning flashed. The second year I was elected to the board as treasurer. I think no one else wanted the job. When we rented a cabin seasonally, we participated less in bass tournaments. The three of us joined a local walleye club and once a year hosted a tournament and BBQ at our cabin. The year my husband died he was voted member of the year. He was so proud. He had given years of service to the club as a member and president. I have to stop now.
