History

Places I've been
Austin, TX (Hometown), I call Austin my hometown because I've lived here more years than I've ever lived anywhere else and because my heart is here. When I was little, I lived on a farm outside of beautiful, beautiful San Gabriel, Texas; and some of my heart still resides there as well. I went to high school in Cameron (felt like 40 years in hell); and lived in Houston for 12 years (another 40 years in hell). Left part of myself in Switzerland, a little bit of me in Argentina, chunks along the coast of California, bits in NYC.

About Me

According to my mother, my sister was the smart one; my brother was the quiet one; I was the weird one. All I can say is, I have tried to live up to her expectations.

I'm an actor, composer, writer and photographer with an active imagination and a well developed sense of humor (and I'm not afraid to use either!). Always looking for that next magical artistic collaboration with new artists as well as tried and true favorites. Diehard Beatles fan.

Please visit me at my personal website where you can check out my resume, or at my myspace page where there's always something fun going on.

In the meantime, feel free to hang out here a while and listen to some of my recent film and theater compositions.

CHUMPHREY'S NEWS
(or trivia or self promotion)
DU JOUR
(or whenever)

5/30/08:  Wow!  Took about a month off from theater duties to do a little personal relaxation & rehabilitation.  It's a good thing, too, because I just got cast in TWO plays.  The rehearsals for the second one ("Merry Wives of Windsor") start the day after the first one closes ("Kidnapped by Craigslist").  No rest for the wicked, as my mama used to say -- but I wouldn't have it any other way!

5/15/08:  It's been THREE YEARS since I've had a vacation, and FOUR YEARS since I've had one with my sweetie.  We leave Saturday for a week in the New Mexico mountains, ahhhhhhh!  I left the insurance adjustor my cell phone number so he can call me about the hail damage our house sustained last night from TENNIS BALL size hail.  What a night!

3/3/08: I'm stoked! I just got hired to do the costume design for Robert Johnson: Trick the Devil, a play co-produced by ProArts Collective and Austin Community College. This is my first professional costume gig -- something I've been wanting for YEARS!

2/18/08: Just learned that I was a runner up in the Eons January poetry contest, woo hoo. You can read the winning poems here.

1/30/08: I organized a scientific symposium at The University of Texas which ran the past three days. There's nothing so satisfying as working hard on a difficult project, seeing it through to its successful completion, and then STOPPING! Ahhhhhh.

1/24/08: My friend Steve's play Prepare for Arrival and Cross Check opens tomorrow night. I wrote the music, so needless to say, I'm starting to get nervous! But those butterflies in my stomach remind me that I'm ALIVE, woo hoo!

1/16/08: Woo hoo! I finished as a runner up in the Eons 'Snazz up your profile' contest! For a list of winners and runners up, click here. What a great contest it was! Thanks, Eons.

1/6/08: Another reason I love living in Austin: in one evening (last Friday) we were able to do all this -- we went with a couple of writer friends to have dinner and see "Sweeny Todd" at the Alamo Drafthouse (a combination restaurant/bar/movie theatre) then went two-stepping to some hard-core country-western music at the Broken Spoke with a group of people from all over the world who just happen to play in the same Middle Eastern ensemble. Love, love, love the diversity!

1/3/07: Back to the day job after the holiday break. Silly me actually came back yesterday only to discover that The University of Texas was still closed. DOH! Could have had another couple hours' sleep. Still, it was an opportunity to go out and have breakfast with another coworker who had made the same mistake.

12/31/07: Going dancing tonight with my sweetie. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

12/26/07: Day after tomorrow I start rehearsals for a short film. I'll be playing a crazy old lady. Wait -- am I being typecast or what!!!!

12/24/07: I just learned that I won an honorable mention in the Eon's December Drabble contest, woo hoo! The theme was 'winter.' Check out all the winning entries here.
