More about me

I have done some extraordinary things in my life.  I didn't know that they were extraordinary when I was doing them.  I was just living my life and things unfolded.

I am a mother, grandmother, singer/songwriter, actress, writer, lighting designer, entrepreneur and hockey coach though I should have lived my life as an English teacher (my mother's plan for me).  Well, I never became that English teacher because the registration line for Fine Arts was much shorter than the one for Liberal Arts.  Thus began my adventure and career in the business of show.

I was the first female technical theatre major at Howard University.  First female crew chief at Cramton Auditorium.  I married a Canadian, moved to Canada and became the first (and only)  Black female hockey coach in Canada (and coached my son's team while performing 8 shows a week in the Toronto company of Ain't Misbehavin'. I continued coach for 2 more years).

I spent 10 glorious months performing in Bermuda.  I worked every major jazz and R&B venue in Toronto, sang a host of national and international TV and radio jingles and raised a remarkable son.  I've done three movies, four major theatrical productions ("Mama, I Wanna Sing", "A...My Name is Alice", "Indigo" and "Ain't Misbehavin'" (for which I was nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore award (Canadian Tony) AND I sang at Wayne Gretzsky's wedding at his request.

Then I got tired.  I moved to the Caribbean and worked as a newspaper reporter (though I still sang fulltime).  It is a part of my life so filled with intrigue and drama that I am presently writing a book about it. A family member living in Cincinnati suggested that I should relocate in order to dedicate myself to the book and so I did.

You might wonder why I refer to all these things as extraordinary.  They are because I hadn't meant to do any of them.  I was going to be an English teacher!
