Poster child for underachievers, I've built funiture, tires, airtools, raised hogs, done taxes, negotiated wage and benefit agreements, collected unpaid debts, fur trapped, bartered various and sudry labor and junk, bondo work, eavesdropped, raised sheep, played in a garage band, drywalled, light cement work, taken portraits, and a lot of other stuff that I did for free or favors, and now I'm a nurse.
Survived cancer, housefire, drowning, stabbing, riding a dirtbike off a 15ft ledge into a tree, beatings, rolling down stairs several times, upper jaw broken, hand broken, foot broken, leg broken, spine and ribs cracked, pool cue to the head, several car and bicycle wrecks, frostbite, 2 code blues, dog bite, mule bite, girl bite, electric shock, falls from a couple roofs, and ran a forklift through a candy machine....accidently.
It sounds pretty busy til you remember it took a half century or so to do it all.
None of these things made me accomplished, witty, or even very much smarter.
They just seemed like the thing to do at the time. All I ever wanted was to pay my bills, keep my promises, and talk to cute girls. So far, so good......

Front porch or firepit with friends, a good garage on a summer day with the doors open and oldies on, Murphy's Jazz Club near the waterfront in Toledo, a dingy un-airconditioned bar in a small town not far from here, my late brother-in-law's sheepbarn in the dead of winter right after lambing, the last hill you crest going north when you first spot the Mackinac Bridge rising up out of the forest, an artisan-made cabin in the woods just outside of St. Ignace, the 8th hole at the golf club-157yd par3(130 of that being water), any good Mexican restaurant.
