Our Family of nine moved from Hartford CT to Winter Park Fla.when I was 13. I spent my youth in the then sleepy little area they just called Central Florida. The idea of Disneyworld and all that followed wasn't even on anyone's drawing board. Cape Canaveral surely was though and many were the nights we would see searchlights suddenly appearing in the far off distance of the coast over 40 miles away. That was the signal to yell to everyone to come outside, they were going to try to launch another rocket. Sometimes they were just little ones that would could see rise into the night sky, others a little latter were the massive Saturn 5's that would make the ground shake under our feet 40 miles away a a low rumble that was like the lowest note you had ever heard in your life. In that same place I watched U2 planes flying so low over my house that I felt like I could reach up and touch it. It's wingspan was outrages! It seemed so long. That was in October of 1963 and all I was aware of was my neighbors trying to get my dad to go along with a plan to build a fallout shelter for the street. My father thought the guy pushing for the project was nuts. It was okay though. The guy built his own shelter, so in the end he got what he wanted didn't he? I've traveled all over the south playing in a rock and roll band a we were succesful enough to have the number 1 record in Central Florida for 6 weeks running and that gave us the credentials to start doing concerts and tours with big groups at the time like The Hollies, the Yardbirds(when Jimmy Page was with them) Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, The Byrds, and a slew of others of that sort. I've been to too many towns to start mentioning them. We also played up North in Lake George, Long Island, New York City and again a bunch of other places. I Directed and played the part of Herod in a road company version of "Jesus Christ Superstar" all throught bible belt as far west as Salinas Kansas, Muskogee OK, South down to Wichita Falls Texas and as far east as Daytona Beach Fl. and all points in between. Then I moved to NYC and played in the clubs there as a single, duet, trio etc, These were the swinging 70's by now and AIDS was just a diet pill that looked like a piece of chocolate (and I suspect it was) Life was good playing in the clubs every night, I could go on about the places I've been but it would be easier to say where I haven't been and that is out of the country, Except for a trip to Bermuda I won and a look at Niagara Falls from the Canadian side I'm an all-American boy. I've been to Aspen Colorado and thought it was wonderful. but so is Vermont and New Hampshire and Virginia and a thousand other places I've been. I've usually been pretty happy wherever I ended up with just a few exceptions that I'm not going into that here. And oh yeah! When I was born I was born very close to my Mother.

HiHo,
I am a 58 year old cancer survivor. Up until recently I thought I was going to have to have major surgery to try and stop it, but through Chemo and Radiation they managed to shrink the offending tumor to the point where now all my scans show me cancer free. I don't know when I went from patient to survivor as I was so numb at hearing I didn't need half my neck cut off it was days sinking in. My whole way of thinking about life has changed. I've just started back to work and life has been wonderful for me as I get stronger and stronger every day.
I design gates , fences, and pergolas for an old New England wood products firm out of the Boston area but I work from a branch in Ridgefield CT. My co-workers have been wonderful and I thank my lucky stars to be able to pick up where I left life off a year ago. I try to respond to all correspondence so give me a little time to reply and I will.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I wrote the above about a year ago and am now 59. My outlook at that time was a lot rosier than my year turned out to be. First my Xerostomia or "dry mouth" continued on and I found out saliva keeps your teeth from decaying. My perfectly good teeth just up and rotted away and the only thing to do was to remove them. I am just getting used to dentures which is no picnic with Xerostomia interfering. Then for some reason my left hand just "dropped" and I lost all ability to use it at all. After wearing a brace for about 5 months I finally have the use of my fingers but my wrist is still weak. It does seem to be getting better though so I look forward to an easier time of it this year. I'm the Manager of the group "Cancer Patients and Survivors" here at Eons and it is a pleasure to know such fine people in that group. It's my best therapy for the blues I know to talk to someone who really understands what I've been through. It also humbles me when I see members who have problems a lot worse than mine and still keep the sunny side up. - Activities
