More about me

What's born pregnant, hungry, and mean?

Fictionally speaking, it's THRIPZ, a genetically modified form of Thysanoptera: Thripidae who star in my new extranormal novel, also titled THRIPZ. Get it at Amazon.com and at CreateSpace.com for only $6.99.

At Amazon, you get the free shipping if your order is over $25. And you can also find out about getting an autographed copy at THRIPZ.com.

Now...who would pitch a mutant insect agricultural espionage thriller?

That would be me, a 54-year-old father of a six-year-old boy. A stay-at-home, work-at-home dad, I edit a bit, play some Xbox, teach a while, work a little, shoot some basketball or soccer, teach some Bible, work a little, fix food, play some Playstation...you get the idea. It's a life I never thought I'd have, and one that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world.

I used to work on a farm in Hawaii, preparing work orders and other stuff using programs I wrote in MS Excel. That's where I learned more about pesticides, fungicides, yuckicides, and who-knows-what-icides than I thought I'd ever know. And where I came up with the idea for the story that became THRIPZ.

Back in 2004, I won a book writing contest and my story, Thrips, was published as a hardcover edition. It cost $28, which in 2008 dollars is like, $35. A couple of publishers this year agreed to republish it, but since they offered no huge advance money and wanted me to do most of the promo and marketing work, I figured, why have a middleman telling me what to do when I can just do it? So, the book was released, July 15, 2008, titled THRIPZ, and costs a sweet $6.99 for a 234-page trade paperback edition. That's like $4.99 in 2004 dollars.

I feel like people who enjoy suspenseful stories with a dash of the paranormal (I aspire to the style of Dean Koontz, who writes gritty stories without resorting to vulgar language) will enjoy reading this book. Four sample chapters are accessible from my web page at http://www.thripz.com .

Want an autographed copy? You're in luck. Head over to THRIPZ.com again and look down the right-hand column. Signed copies will cost the list price of $6.99 plus $4.50 for shipping and handling. Once I become famous, you could probably eBay it for, I don't know, $11.50.

Come back often. And keep reading!
