I am Barbara Breslin Hinds Almony. I've written ALL my names here so that freinds might better be able to recognize me! I was born in NY, NY though my family lived in Brooklyn at the time. My dad rejoined the USArmy in the early 1950's. When he returned from Korea, we all jumped right into the military lifestyle, moving from post to post in whatever wood-sided station wagon we had at the time! I attended 12 different schools, including four high schools; I even transferred during my senior year. I loved all the travelling, though it was hard sometimes to "break in" at a new school. But it made me srong and independent and ready to set down to work, I guess, In 1965, I moved to Tuscaloosa, AL to attend the University of Alabama---Roll Tide! I met my husband, Steve Hinds, an Alabama boy my second year at school. We married in 1968, bought our first home, and stayed to raise our four children here! As much as I enjoyed moving form school to school, I was pleased that my children were able to set down strong roots. It's god to know that the freinds they attended preschool with were the same friends they graduated with! Steve and I had four children---Jennifer (39), Josh (33), Maty Kate (32), and Stevie (28). The oldest two still live in Tuscaloosa but Mary Kate lives in Atlanta and Stevie lives in Auburn, AL. I have three grandchildren---Brady (9), Cameron (7), and Susannah (2).
I completed my first degree at the U of A in 1971 and taught for two years in Woodstock, AL. I was lucky enough to be a stay-at-home mom until my youngest was in the fourth grade. I think I was the last of the stay-at-home moms! At that point, I returned to school for my Masters in Early Childhood Education and began my teaching career in earnest at University Place School. It didn't take me too long to realize that being a teacher was not just what I did--it is what I am. In 1995, I received my Preprimary credential from the American Montessori Assn. In 2003, I received National Board certification. Currently, I teach pre-school four year olds in a public school setting. This is my 11th year doing this. It is the most challenging but rewarding experience I have ever had. My little city has become a leader in preK education in our state, with the goal of providing this all-important year of education to all at risk four year olds!
My husband Steve died suddenly and unexpectedly of a major coronary 11 years ago. I met Joe, my current husband, online (of all places) and we married on May 6, 2006. Being married to Joe suits me just fine and I am enjoying the depth he has brought to my life. We love to travel together, read the same books, and spend time with our family. Joe has two children---Joe and Holly.
Retirement for me is sometime in the near future, though I'm not sure when. As long as I find satisfaction in teaching, I want to keep it up!

Associating frequently in two groups, a friendship should grow quickly. Thank you for joining The Front Porch. I hope it meets and exceeds all of your expectations.
