I was born in Beverly, MA, just before WWII. Have lived in Washington, DC, State College, PA, New Orleans, LA, and Virginia. In the US, I travel to a dude ranch near Sheridan, Wyoming, every summer (see recent photos). I go to Tucson in the winter. Travel to LA, San Diego, and New York to visit my grown children and sister. Have traveled in England, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

I am a fine artist (http://alicelees.com) living in Philomont, VA. Before that, I lived on a small farm near Waterford, VA. My passions are numerous, and include making art, riding my horses, reading, having fun with family and friends, and involving myself in the programs and missions of my church (see groups).

I was born in Beverly, MA, just before WWII. Moved to Washington, DC, after the war, and grew up and went to school there. Went to Penn State as a pre-vet major, but received a BA in English in 1961. Married in 1962, moved to New Orleans in 1964, where I began my study of art at Tulane. Moved back to Washington in 1974, and to Virginia in 1988. Received a BFA in art form the Corcoran School of Art.

I have three adult children and two grandchildren.

Making art, visiting museums and galleries, riding, swimming biking, reading, writing.

Doctors without Borders, Salvation Army, the Outreach missions of St. James'.

West Side Story, Arlo Guthrie and Pete Seeger, Beetles, The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute, Beethoven's Ninth, choral work by a Finnish composer, Arvo Peert (have to check the spelling).

The News Hour, any series on PBS (Jane Austen), American Masters, HBO's John Adams series.

Favorite Movies

The Dead (John Huston's last movie, starring Anjelica Huston; based on short story by James Joyce; just fabulous), Schindler's List, Bonhoefer, Fanny and Alexander (Bergman), Babette's Feast, Shakespeare in Love.

Recent: I'm on an Ian McEwan roll, so: Saturday, Atonement, The Innocent. Also: Water for Elephants, The Book Thief. Thomas Cahill's "Hinges of History" series: the Gifts of the Jews, Desire of the Everlasting Hills, Sailing the Wine-Dark Sea. Early: Dickens, Scott. Rilke: Letters to a Young Poet, A Little Treasury of Great Poetry, CS Lewis's Space Trilogy; Charles Williams's novels. Annie Dillard's books. Children's books I still love: fairy tales by Grimm and Anderson, The Secret Garden, Little Lord Fauntleroy, Louisa May Alcott, including a story entitled "Fancy's Friend, " about the creative spirit. Poets: John Donne, George Herbert, TS Eliot, Oscar Wilde, Yeats.
