More about me

I'm 46.  I love to read.  I write some. I've done some freelance newspaper and mag work in the past.

  I homeschooled my sons--I have three--until high school. My oldest son is a student at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA.  I have a five year old daughter who I plan to homeschool until college if I can convince her to go along with my plans.

I am definitely going through some type of mid-life crisis.  I'm walking every morning around 6am looking for the answers to life. 

 I live on a farm where we raise cattle, sheep, and goats.  We also have donkeys, etc.  I usually put in a big garden.  I started a small kitchen garden this summer as well.  I'm trying my hand at an herb garden. 

Activities

Reading. I read a lot. I told my son that reading is my drug of choice. That pretty much describes my relationship to books.

Favorite Charities

When I have extra money--which is not now--I typically give to WV Public radio. They've brought a lot of joy to my life. I also used to give to Amnesty International. I prefer to donate my time when I feel concerned about something. I used to donate a lot of time to our state homeschooling organization. With my older children in public school, I switched to donating a lot of time (and money) to our local school community.

Favorite Music

I have very eclectic taste in music. About the only type of music that I will turn off is organ music, I find it a downer.

Favorite TV Shows

I don't watch television. I haven't seen anything on the tube except for a few moments of a football game in years.

Favorite Movies

Terms of Endearment George of the Jungle You've Got Mail The only type of movies that I will not watch are ones made to scare you.

Favorite Books

Caesar by McCullough Mr. Putter books by Cynthia Rylant The Ha-Ha by David King Handling Sin by Michael Malone Cold Sassy Tree by Burns I'm in a local reading group. We've read a lot of great books.

Favorite Quotes

I used to collect quotes. I'll have to fill this is later when I get a chance to look over my collection.

Favorite People

This is like thanking people at the Oscars. I'd be afraid to leave someone out of my list.

Favorite Places

Certain places on the farm. Dolly Sods. Paris.

Favorite Animals

We own a farm. We have cattle, sheep, goats, donkeys, a pony, cats, dogs, tadpoles, minnows, wild geese, etc. Funny thing is I don't much like animals anymore. I do love our guardian dogs. They guard the sheep and goats. Maremmas. I still feel great love for the first Maremma we ever had, Caesar. We have three of his "babies". One of them is a very affectionate, and he reminds me a lot of Caesar.
