Places I've been

I have lived all over Northern CA: Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco, Cotati, Sebastopol, Laytonville, Mill Valley, Tiburon, Loomis, Davis, Woodland, and now, Sacramento. I also lived in Hawaii for approx. 6 months. Back in 1972, after graduating from college, I went to Europe and spent a month in Spain in a small beach town named Sitges. It was then and is still now one of my favorite places in the world. I have never been back, but I can remember it just as if it were yesterday!

More about me

I am an early retiree. I retired five years ago when I was only 52 years old. I had been a child protective services social worker for 15 years and let's just say you can never trust anybody and no job is ever completely safe. Moving on, I have a 20 year-old son who finished his Freshman year at UC Davis, but because of the poor economy was not able to get the loans he needed for his Sophomore year. He is taking a year off and we are confident with our new president and the hope for a stronger economy that he will be able to return to school next fall.  I have been married for 23 years, but we are not very close any more. It is sad, but I am cosidering moving out on my own. Only problem is financially that would be very difficult. So we are between a large rock and a hard place. Times are very tough right now as they are for every body else.  But as Jerrry Garcia always sang, "We will get by, we will survive"!

Activities

I love to watch TV. I am an addict. I cannot remember ever not having a TV. I love police, medical, reality, and news shows. My favorite is ER and I am having a really hard time now that it is going off next year after 14 years. This year I also got involved in politics. I campaigned very hard for Hillary, making thousands of phone calls getting together with fellow supporters to brainstorm ideas, etc. Although I was initially crushed that Hillary's 18, 000, 000 votes did not get her the nomination, I am very happy that Barack Obama is our President-elect and that he made an excellent choice by appointing Hillary as Secretary of State. Her position will be one of the most important as well as most difficult in the Obama administration.

Grateful Dead (Deadhead for 39 years) Eric Clapton, Stones, Police, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Psychedelic music from the 60's and 70's Bluegrass I enjoy classical music although I don't have any specific pieces to name.I came to enjoy classical music when my son played in the world renowned Sacramento Youth Symphony for two years. When he entered college he dropped music and I am very sad that he did because he is an excellent classical drummer. I still have hope that he will pick it up again.

Favorite TV Shows

ER, all three CSIs, all three Law and Orders, Ugly Betty, The Mentalist, Fringe, Bones, NCIS, Brothers and Sisters, Daybreak, In Plain Sight, The Cleaner, Life, Life on Mars, Flashpoint, Clean House, The Biggest Loser, Days of Our Lives, Young and the Restless, and all of the awards shows. As you can see my main interest lies in crime and drama shows!

Favorite Movies

Godfather.............................................1&2 and then 3. I am a fanatic of the Godfather movies and go through withdrawals when they are not on TV for several months at a time. I have not seen them for a few months and I am ready! Titanic, Schindler's List, Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, Gentleman's Agreement. I just watched the Great Escape and had forgotten what an amazing movie it was. The actors were so young! Steve McQueen, James Garner, David McCallum, Richard Attenborough, Donald Pleasance, and Charles Bronson. Four of these actors are no longer with us. Such a long time ago - 1963!

Favorite Books

I cannot think of any specific book that I would consider my favorite, but I will admit that I have not completed any book for many, many, years. I do read magazines and finish them.

Favorite People

Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, Al Gore, Barbara Streisand, Bette Midland, Jerry Garcia, Roger Daltry, Pete Townsend, Steven Spielberg. There are others I just can't pull out of the recesses of my brain right now!

Favorite Places

The Big Island of Hawaii, especially Kona where I lived for six months back in 1981. Sitges, a small beach town on the Costa Dorado in Spain where I spent one month back in 1972, on my trip through Europe after I graduated from CW Post College on Long Inland, NY. I also like upstate NY where I spend many happy summers at my grandmother's house as a child. I love Marin County, CA where I lived for almost ten years, but had to move from when the cost of living skyrocketed in the mid 1980's.Marin had perfect temperate weather and where I lived in Mill Valley and then later on in Tiburon was minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. Now those areas are congested with traffic and far too expensive for an average middle class family to live. Rich people only!

Favorite Animals

I have four dogs. Two chihuahua mixes; one is Corgi Terrier, and the other is Dachschant. Then we have two purebred German Shepherds. They are huge. We also have two Maine Coon cats that are very furry and shed a great deal. So we give them haircuts and baths; what an ordeal and mess. Their names in listed order are: Bear, Abby, Doc, Mattie, Butchie, and Big Kitty. Abby is the oldest. She is 14 but still full of vim and vigor. Bear is ten but acts like a puppy and the shepherds are only four. The cats are nine and and respectively. We have a handful but they are all very special. They cost a fortune to feed though!
