In the spring of 2004, Tony Haas decided to become a writer, a significant life change from the left-brained world of business consulting to the foreign right-brained universe of artful creativity ... of intuition ... of imagination. The inspiration for his first novel came from letters received from family living on the lower Volga River in Russia. His goal was to write a historical novel based on his family and to write the story from a woman’s perspective. His Great-Aunt Helena stole his heart and the lead in his fictionalized tale of life in Solotoye. Tony studied the works of Virginia Woolf, Sandra Cisneros, Carole Maso, and several poets to help create a writing style that was steeped in figurative and poetic language.
