I was fortunate to be able to travel the world for 27 years as an Associated Press reporter covering thousands of stories and meeting thousands of wonderful and interesting people. I am a Baby Boomer who will turn 60 this year. I was born in Trenton, Missouri, and am a graduate of the University of Missouri's School of Journalism, which turns 100 years old next year. I worked for The Associated Press for 27 years, have been the Atwood Professor of Journalism at the University of Alaska Anchorage, and will celebrate my 29th wedding anniversary this year. I have spent my entire professional life as a journalist, writer and writing teacher, a great blessing for me and my family.

My husband, a former managing editor of the Fairbanks (Alaska) News-Miner, is an artist and writer, and returned to college at the age of 53 to earn two master's degrees, in teaching and fine arts in creative writing. He began his third career, as a middle school teacher, at age 56, and has just retired from his public school teaching at age 66.

We have always been partners in whatever we've attempted to do, and that great joy continues for me as we ease ourself into a new chapter which we hope will move a little slower but be just as relevant and meaningful to us as the more exciting past chapters of our blessed lives.
