- More about me

The Coast Guard was good to me. I joined as a "recruit", got to E-7, went to Officer Candidate School and did my final years as an Officer. I was stationed all over the country, and have four kids born in four states.
I made several trips on International Ice Patrol, sailed across the Arctic Circle and the International Date Line. I got to swim in the middle of the Pacific Ocean as a "ship's swimmer", eat a piece of an iceberg off the Grand Banks, go ice-breaking in Hudson's Bay, been on Shore Patrol in St John's Newfoundland; I have taken oceanographic water samples in two oceans, I've been in gale force winds in the Bering Sea, and witnessed a "seal kill" in the Pribiloff Islands. But I also got to see waters so calm and flat you could see whales blow miles away.
Most military people tell about long and / or boring service life. I never got bored. Lonely yes, but never bored.
