More about me

Hello!  I live in Jacksonville, Florida with my husband Ed, about 7 minutes from the beach.  We have beautiful beaches here, and are in a great location; just 2 1/2 hours from Orlando, 3 hours from Savannah, 5 hours from Charleston, South Carolina (my favorite city), and just 6 hours from Miami and Atlanta.  We love the laid-back Florida lifestyle and the warm climate and balmy subtropical breezes.  I have two handsome grown stepsons, and one adorable and very sweet little granddaughter.  We love to spoil her!!  Ed will tell you we can't go shopping without me going off to the children's clothing and toy departments!!  I'm a Gemini, so I have many interests.  I  graduated from the University of Kentucky, with a Bachelor of Science degree in retail merchandising and the humanities.  I began as a theater arts major, wanting to be an actress since I was a little girl and saw "The Sound of Music."  I have acted on and off through the years, and will be appearing in the upcoming HBO film "Recount" to be released next spring.  I also wanted to be a museum curator at one time.  I love art and history; I took ancient, medieval and modern art history, and history of costume and also studied archaeology (I also wanted to be an archaeologist were it not for my terrible dusty allergies!).  After college, I studied to become a registered gemologist, and worked in a fine jewelry store for over 3 years back in Kentucky.  Shortly after moving to Florida, I became a travel agent, which I did for almost 18 years.  I loved it and was blessed to be able to travel all over the world for several years.  After 9/11, things changed and most travel was fast-paced corporate, so I quit the travel business.  I've spent the last three years writing poetry and children's stories (several of my poems have been published), and now I am recording textbooks on audiotape for blind students at the University of North Florida.   The thing I love most about life is that you never know what is just around the corner!!

Activities

Ed and I love to walk on the beach, and ride our bikes at the beach. We love to go out to eat!! We love everything; Mexican, Italian, Chinese, and good country cookin'. We love reality TV shows (Dancing With the Stars is our favorite). We love to go to the movies (we HAVE to get popcorn or it isn't the same), go to the ballet, concerts (everything from rock/pop to classical symphonies), art museums, and we love history; especially ancient history (like Pompeii, Biblical) and Civil War history...we are huge Civil War buffs. I love to read, try new recipes, travel, keep in touch with my best friends, and spend time with my family and Ed's family. I also love the holidays and holiday parties. I want to learn as much about this earth as I can. I love ALL animals, especially cats & dogs.

Favorite Charities

Animal rights and protection groups; ASPCA, PETA, The Humane Society, and World Wildlife Fund. Also environmental groups; Sierra Club, The Nature Conservancy, the Audubon Society. Also the Vietnam Veterans and Paralyzed Veterans.

Favorite Music

I love just about everything except rap and hip hop. My favorites are 60s, 70s, 80s...such as the Beatles, Dire Straits, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Eagles, ABBA, Fleetwood Mac, etc. I also love country music, classical, waltzes, and musicals.

Favorite TV Shows

A lot of the old ones...I Love Lucy, Andy Griffith, The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, Northern Exposure, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Frasier, Dallas, Dynasty, The Love Boat. Currently we watch mainly reality shows (my favorites are Dancing With the Stars and Survivor), and the History Channel, Discovery Channel, Discovery Channel, Court TV, and Fox Cable News. We also love Jay Leno (The Tonight Show), and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

Favorite Movies

My favorite movie of all time is "The Sound of Music." My favorite Christmas movie is "Christmas Vacation" with Chevy Chase...LOVE that cousin Eddie!! My favorite romantic movie is "Somewhere in Time". And my favorite comedy is "The Birdcage". My favorite children's movie is "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang".

Favorite Books

The Secret Garden, The Pink Motel, The Secret of Crossbone Hill, the Nancy Drew Mystery series (I have most of them), Jane Seymour's "Guide to Romantic Living", The Road to Paradise Island by Victoria Holt, Into Thin Air and Into the Wild, both by Jon Krakauer. Also my assorted travel books!
