I have christened this year as the year of “finding richiesmom.” Richie my only child at 27, passed away unexpectedly May 4, 2006. From that moment to this, I have felt very lost. After his death I took an early retirement from my employer. However, before drawing any conclusions I have a lot to be thankful for. I have a wonderful husband of 23 years, a 9-year old grandson, Jamie my daughter-in-law who I’m certain will turn into a Starbucks latte one day, and Riley a very cranky 12-year old dachshund. I have always been a working mom. In many cases the work I did defined who I was; in addition to being Mark’s wife, Richie’s mom, and Tristan’s grandmother. For eighteen years, I worked as a Project Manager in Information Technology. My degree is in Accounting & Computer Science. My husband also works as a Manager in Information Technology. Our work provided a comfortable living for our family and those we love. We were lucky in other ways. Work, never was in the way of parenting Richie. We never missed a school play; we never missed baseball games, and a myriad of other school activities. I misspoke earlier when I said work often defined who I was. Richie defined who I was. In every possible way, the best years of my life have been spent being “richiesmom.” For now, I’m keeping my options open. I volunteer in the computer lab of my grandson’s school. I’ve embarked on a huge project of digitizing family photo’s and memorabilia. I spend way to much time on EONS! And I’m busy planning summer get-aways for Mark, Tristan, Jamie, and me. However, nothing has come close to healing the hole in my heart. I’m not sure anything ever will. Guess I’ll just need to wait and see.

At 55 I'm retired and tutoring 3rd graders (including my only grandson, Tristan). Staying healthy is a challenge--requiring more effort than I anticpated! Keeping up with my precious Tristan requires the energy of a twenty-something!
