Places I've been
Spent my childhood in St. Louis. Went to highschool in Milwaukee, WI., but graduated at Evanston H.S. (a suburb of Chicago). I moved to Chicago at 18 and adopted it as my home town and lived there up until last year. I went to nursing school and then to college and graduated in 1993 with honors with a major in psychology and a minor in social work. I never thought I'd leave Chicago. Things change! (Long story) and here I am in TN. and love it here very much.
More about me

Hi!

I am so happy to be part of this community and look forward to meeting you all as friends.

I was born in Boston. We lived there until I was 5.

Then, we moved to St. Louis. We moved there because my mother's brother lived there. From then on, we moved many times, St.  as she followed her brother like a pupppy dog all over the country.

My Dad was the only good thing in my life. My uncle was abusive in EVERY way and my mother was too blinded by his charisma and lies to see it or listen to me. My childhood was HELL.

My Dad left for Denver when I was 8 to make a new life for us, He had a job, a church and friends, but, of course, my mother chose her brother over her husband,  (My Dad died 4 years later, a broken man.)  So it remained until I was 18 and could walk out that HELL forever. So, I did. I moved into the city of Chicago and adopted it as my home town. That meant a lot to me because like I said, we moved all over the place, never having a place to call my home.

Just a side note here: Chicago politics is a sight to behold. There's nothing like it!

I married the only man I  had ever loved. We had 2 daughters, his 3 children and later, a bunch of foster kids. Giving these children a loving home did so much to heal my life. At least I could give what I never got in childhood. That gave me a measure of peace.

Later I went to nursing school and worked as head nurse of a half way house for mental patients and alchoholics.  I loved my job -- I was really good at what I did. Like I would always tell my patients when they asked me, "How come you understand us so well."; I would always reply, "Afer what I've been through, not that much separates us -- only the grace of God, and it is my privilege to be your nurse. I  need you as much as you need me!")

I also graduated college with a degree in psychology, minor in social work, in 1993.

The children are all grown now.

My husband and I were married for 36 years.

In March 2006, we moved to Knoxville, TN where my olest daughter, Robin, lives with her husband and four children.

(My husband had a heart condition and a series of strokes. My youngest daughter and her husband conned him into signing for their mortgage and thei down payment on their house. They never paid a dime,  unbeknown to us, of course, and the house went into foreclosure and we lost almost everything. They also got hold of our credit cards and bank account number and as you probably figured, they took almost 3/4 of whatever we had.)

We could no longer afford to live in Chicago. In addition, our last few years there were very sad as most of our friends had died. We assesed what we had left financially and I bought this house outright here in Knoxville with everything we had left. (As a note of humor -- Ha Ha! to my youngest daughter, "There is nothing left to steal!") My husband went directly to a nursing home from the Knoxville airport. Two months later, he died. Those two months wee happy months. He always said to me and Robin, "Thank you for bringing me here."  That made me happy.

I have been here a year and a half now, and I love it here. I loved Chicago so much while I lived there. but things change. Now, I wouldn't go back there EVER! I am very happy here.

I have some acquaintances at church but look forward to making real friends here. I'm sure that in God's timinmg, that will happen.

Again, I thank God for this wonderful Eon's community.

It's good to be part of all of your lives.
