About Me
Hello, Folks!
I can't give up my day job, but I find my true identity as a poet in what I do on my own time...
Epilepsy has been an obstacle to be overcome for as long as I can remember. My entire life has revolved around finding ways to cope with my disability. Later in life I was also involved in helping others cope through my involvement in Epilepsy Concern - That's a coalition of self help groups here in the United States - It's also where Peggy and I met.
The group may or may not still exist, but what we found together will live on through my poetry.
It's too bad that poets seem condemned to rely on other sources of income in order to survive... Even with three books to my credit, I cannot claim much real income through them. However, I'm pleased to be able to say that Going Without Peggy was accepted in two categories in the 2005 Pulitzer Prize competition. (as verse and as biography) I may not have been one of the winners that they announced in the spring of 2006, but it nonetheless speaks to the quality of my writing in that I was able to compete.

I also carry on the fight against Human Trafficking that I started with another of my books (Poison Pearls) at my other web site, www.scaredsafe.org

Her name was Peggy and she had epilepsy, as do I.
Going Without Peggy is the book that tells our story.
Romance & marriage... yes we eloped! Her parents thought that my epilepsy would add to her problems as an epileptic and they never realised that we had each found someone who could understand without words what we had been through as children, as adults and would continue to go through on a day to day basis throughout the rest of our lives.
We had 17 wonderful years together until cancer struck....
It's a story of love and loss - even premonition! It's a book of High Romance where prose and poetry take turns telling the tale. It's also a Tragedy that will bring very real tears to your eyes, even more so since you can identify with the disability that we shared. It tells a tale of survival, not only of the difficulties of living with a disability, but also of coping and coming back when the absolute worst that can happen does happen! Many people have told me that they read this book straight through until they were finished... Then they went back and read it again!
