Larry Lerner was born in New York City, and grew up in Englewood, New Jersey. While in high school, he was the drummer with several Jersey shore bands that were founders of the Sounds of Asbury Park music scene and played with musicians who later became members of The E Street Band. Attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, he graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree. While attending Berklee, he worked as manager of The Orson Welles Cinema in Cambridge, MA.
Larry's first job in the film business was as a production assistant with Associated Filmakers International, a commercial production company in Miami. Florida. He became a 1st Assistant Director member of the Directors Guild of America in 1983, and has worked all over the continental U.S., Hawaii, and Prague, Czech Republic.
Larry has worked as an assistant director on feature films, Movies-of-the-Week, music videos and 1 hour episodic television shows. His feature film credits include MILES FROM HOME, POWDER, MEGIDDO: THE OMEGA CODE 2, and FOUR FACES directed by Emmy nominee Ted Post. His episodic television credits include THE BURNING ZONE, THE VISITOR, THIEVES, FASTLANE, EYES, GHOST WHISPERER, and most recently as 1st A.D. on the 2nd Unit of the pilot and series for the new CBS series MOONLIGHT. He is also a consultant for The Sigma Entertainment Group, a film, television, and new media financing and production company.
