About Me
Here I am on Eons. This is why I am here. I am looking to find some new friends and maybe connect with some old friends and also to network with others in my area. I think I have more in common with folks nearer my age.
I like the idea of Eons. This is a nice alternative to sites like Facebook and My Space, since it is especially for us baby boomers. Facebook and MySpace keep me connected with some friends and groups and also some family.
I stay at home part time right now, but I do work one or more days a week with Deaf & Hearing Impaired Services, an agency that works with deaf senior citizens. I work with Deaf Senior Citizens (love it!) in an advocacy capacity. The agency also sends interpreters out on various jobs. I also work a few days each month at my old job, as an off-line captioner and I do the jobs for one particular client. I also am working (volunteer) at a local cable television studio crewing for some shows and getting ready to produce and host a show about disabilities. I would not mind going back to work part time 15-20 or more hours a week in an office or law firm in addition to my job. Or, I would like to work in corporate as a disability advisor. I love laws and research and finding the answer or the route to an answer and solve a problem. My ideal situation would be as an advisor on disabilities to HR. I am also studying to prepare to take my state Sign Language Interpreter certification.
I lost my Mom in November. I talk to my dad every night on the phone and see him and my auntie every other week. I have no other family. I do have a few cousins. One in particular, Susan, is like a sister and we email almost everyday and try and get together. Sometimes it is hard with everyone's schedules, etc. I also have another girl cousin in another state that I was growing up and we keep in contact. I have some friends that substitute as family, and they are awesome. I have another friend that I can confide in.
We are a POW/MIA family. My husband's cousin, Martin Massucci, is MIA from Vietnam. My husband is more involved than I am in the POW Committee of Michigan, but we wait together for word.
I love to have peaceful time to relax. I like to bicycle and swim. I like going to the gym when I can and I make an effort to go on Saturday and Sunday morning to swim. I try to go during the week to get on the treadmill. Almost everyday I use an exercise bike in our basement and sometimes the Total Gym. I am trying to keep myself and my bones healthy and my blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesteral under control.
In June I am riding in the Tour de Cure for Diabetes Research and I would like to compete in the Senior Olympics in the future.
