History

Places I've been
Whiting/Robertsdale, IN is right on the southern shore of Lake Michigan. Unfortunately in the midst of industry, although the town is recently seeing its potential as a shore community. Mostly populated by Eastern European immigrants who came to work at S (Hometown), High School Name (City, State) Started out at George Rogers Clark H.S. in Hammond, IN, but in my Sophomore year my mother thought I was hanging with the wrong crowd and transferred me to Bishop Noll Institute, a Catholic high school. Not real happy there, although I met some really long term friends, and they had a great theatre department. Some of the nuns were straight out of Black Patent Leather Shoes, truly. Fortunately, one sweet nun pushed me toward college. I'm thankful for her faith in me. College Name Calumet College of St Joseph...an extension of St Joseph of Rennsalear, Indiana. It was apparantly quite avant garde at that time to put an extension in a city setting. It was not a pretty place. They grabbed up unused /abandoned buildings and converted them to classrooms, etc. It was a perfect school for people who had to work to be able to afford to go to school. Fortunately, they were able to attract some wonderful, dynamic teachers. I have wonderful memories and better yet, lifelong friends. College Graduation Year Should have graduated in 69 or 70, but took a few years off to raise a child...so 75. College Graduation Major/Concentration BA's in Theatre Arts and Radio/Television. Quite realistic, hmm? Actually, the work I did on set design, staging and set painting, combined with a minor in art really " set the stage" for what I'm doing now. Occupation(s) Presently I work part time as a decorator/muralist/floral designer...pretty much anything anyone needs me to do that beautifies their surroundings, even gardening. I'm lucky to have found some well off clients who value my advice and work.

About Me

Just turned 60, can't believe I made it to this age! Had a very loving childhood with close sibs and parents who were fun. Characters. Was a hippy in the late 60's, travelled everywhere, very politically active.  Raised a daughter as a single parent until I was 37, then met the most wonderful man in the world, married him and have been enjoying life. Love to read, travel, garden, paint. Stage 1B breast cancer 3 and a half years ago, fine ever since. The realization that I'm not immortal really put everyday life in perspective, so I no longer sweat the small stuff.  It forces me to take advantage of opportunities that come my way. Instead of thinking, oh, I'll do that after I ...whatever the reason, I now just do it

Now that you are over 50, what are you doing that you never thought you would?

Travelling. For many years, I suffered from panic attacks...many therapies have pinpointed my brother's death in a car accident as the probable cause...which narrowed my life tremendously. When I turned 50, I forced myself to face the fears of cars, planes, etc. and flew to England to visit the gardens there...driving on the wrong side of the road and flying over the ocean seem to have been the final steps in the cure, as I have been travelling like a maniac ever since!

What is your dream vacation?

Funny, just answered this in the Beauty of Paris group....In my fantasy vacation, I enjoy a leisurely jaunt through Paris, train down to Avignon, drive through Provence and the Luberon, continue through the Cote d'Azur to the Italian Riviera, ferry to the Cinque Terra, eat myself silly in Parma, revisit parts of Umbria and Tuscany and end in Roma. Now that should take about a year and a winning lottery ticket!

Where were you born?

In the Midwest, Whiting, Indiana, amidst steel mills and refineries. Not the prettiest part of the nation, but in the 50's a safe, small town where you could run to the park every morning, maybe thing about lunch and come home at night exhausted and happy. I had a wonderful childhood. All it lacked was beauty, which is probably why I travel, paint murals and decorate people's homes. I bring beauty with me, if I can.

$3.00 - $3.25

Grilled chicken & pasta salad
