I know that Mohammad Ali is not a veteran of any kind, but a Draft Dodger, nor is Michael J Fox as he is too young and a Canadian National. I do not understand how your comments about those two individuals (Ali & Fox) are rel event to the Vietnam Veterans board.
I can appreciate the devastating effects of Parkinson's, as I watched my uncle (a Vietnam Veteran) deal with that disease until he passed away last year.
The post "Less Than 850,000 Vietnam Vets Are Estimated To Be Alive Today " on the Vietnam Veterans board, is intended for and about Vietnam Veterans and their families.
It is about 40 years since I went to Vietnam, and about 15 years ago when I was able to share my experiences with anyone outside of my immediate circle of influence. I understand the struggles to get out from under the covers, and to continue on each and every day. I am hoping that your post was not intended to diminish the service of my brothers and sisters, nor to ignore the facts that soon our generation will be gone and that chapter can be swept under some rug somewhere in the recesses of history as simply a footnote.
As a country we continue to owe our service men & women a debt that must be paid and honored by living up to the commitments made, and with promises kept. Every Veteran (WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, or wherever in the world they serve) should be honored and thanked for putting their lives on the line, and some for laying that life on the "alter of sacrifice and service" to preserve the freedoms that as US Citizens, we enjoy. As Veterans, we have paid that debt for one and all, and for us they are rights earned - not merely privileges - to be enjoyed because of that service and sacrifice.
