Places I've been
I was born in Mississippi, raised in Louisiana (with a brief 3-year stint in Colorado), and have spent my adult life in Texas. Steady progression westward! Current favorite travel destination is California since my son moved there last year, and we love the climate and variety of scenery and activities. Biggest travel adventure--Japan.
More about me

I am a teacher.  That pretty much sums up my life--but in a very positive way.  I have taught high school English for something in the neighborhood of 31 years.  When it is WHO you are, who counts!!

A couple of years ago I decided to prepare for a new career after teaching.  I decided to follow in my daughter's footsteps and take an 8-week course in dog training.  My daughter told me about dog training school--"Everybody cries at least once."  Wow--she was right!  I think all of us got a little crazy, a lot stressed, and overwrought occasionally.  It involved living away from home for those 8 weeks, working 12 hours a day with classroom work, training time, and kennel duty.   But dog training school was GREAT, and now I am a Canine Training Specialist.

As of May 31, 2008, I am officially retired from teaching (kids).   I hope to keep my husband hard at work for another 4-5 years at least--I selfishly want lots of mornings to myself with a cup of coffee and something to read!  So far that's not working out great, because I've been out of school for two months now, and have only had 3 mornings like the ones I envisioned.  My daughter has moved back to this area and picked up the dog training business seriously, so I have become her assistant, basically.  She does all the hard core dog handling, and I kind of run the business end and act as her consultant.  We go together on lots of calls where we need a second pair of eyes on the situation, or when we need to bring one of our dogs.  And we work together on teaching group classes one or two evenings a week.  If her husband is not available, my role in Dog Gone Good Pet Training service is to babysit the 2-year old while she does the dog work!

I have a son doing computer engineering stuff with Google in San Francisco area.  Everything you've read about Google being the most fantastic place to work is true.  Justin never buys groceries--Google provides all his meals, including his ice cream and beer.  And if a work problem has him bewildered, he can pay a token fee and spend an hour on one of the massage tables while his mind drifts.

I had a serious auto accident three years ago that left me with some serious scars on my feet and an off-and-on limp--but LIFE IS GOOD.  In about ten days (August 2008) I will be getting one of the long screws in my ankle removed because it's been causing some irritation.  It shouldn't change anything except to eliminate the swelling bump I've got on my foot!

At least that small surgical procedure is going to guarantee me 72 hours off my feet--I've got the books stacked up and several hours of Tivo'd material, so I'm good to go!!

Talk to me!!
