Places I've been

I grew up to age 9 in the barrios of Los Angeles. My father fought for our country in WWII and returned home with a Purple Heart. He got a financial foothold by working 2 full-time jobs to get us out of the barrio and moved us to the suburbs of L.A. County, Santa Fe Springs. I married at 16 (way too young!) to begin my own life. I was the eldest of 6 children and just couldn't wait to get on with my life! I lived in Whittier. California for 6 years when my then husband was transferred to San Francisco. We had 3 children by then and relocated to Marin County - Novato to be exact. We purchased our first home for $10,000 and the brand new one in Novato (4 Bd, 2 Ba) for $17,000! We lived in the Bay area for 9 years when I divorced my husband and returned to Southern California with my 3 children. We lived in La Habra where I also worked 2 jobs to make ends meet. Three years later, I met my 2nd husband, married and moved to Corona, California. We lived there 9 years also. (Was this a pattern?) Unfortunately, this marriage also ended in divorce. Alcoholism was not what I had bargained for and he was a Jekyll & Hyde alcoholic. The children and I moved to Chino, California where I worked for a developer. While there, I learned the mortgage loan business and got my real estate license. Eight years later I met my 3rd (and final!) husband - the love of my life. We married and moved to Upland, California where we lived for 10 years. We bought a real estate franchise in 1996 and moved to Chino Hills, California where we lived for another 5 years. When that venture did not pan out, we sold back the franchise (Re/Max) and moved to Riverside, California until I was diagnosed with the cancer that almost took my life. Having to make some tough decisions relative to the surgery that was to be performed (to remove the cancerous tumor(s), we decided to live in the most beautiful location we could afford, and that is where we live today - Palm Desert, California. It is "Paradise," and I am so grateful to God that he performed His miracle where I was concerned and gave me another chance at life. This is His country and I am so happy to be here! With my husband, now married 25 years, we have traveled many places in the world; many on cruises. We have been to London, England; Paris, France; Montreal and Victoria, Canada; Jamaica and Hawaii (3 times); the Mexican Riviera, Cabo San Lucas, Acapulco and San Felipe, Sinaloa, Mexico City, Teotihuacan, Tula, Cuernavaca, Jalisco, Bara de Navidad, and many other cities within Mexico itself (this was a 5 week trip with our youngest daughter who was 15 at the time). We have flown to Madrid, Spain and cruised from there to North Africa - Casa Blanca, Morocco, Tunisia, Marekesh, the Canary Islands (all) Portugal and Malaga, Spain. Two of our cruises (the "maiden voyage" of The Crystal Harmony) took us up the East Coast of the United States to Prince Edward Island through the St.Lawrence River and up into Canada. Another cruise took us up the Pacific West Coast of California, Oregon, Washington and up into British Columbia. They were awesome trips. I have travelled to just about every state in the union, missing only about 5 or 6. We just recently took the Amtrak from Riverside, California to Chicago, Illinois then to New Orleans, Louisiana then to Atlanta, Georgia. From there we rented a car and drove to Bowling Green, Kentucky - stayed 1 week then returned to Georgia to visit with my sister and brother-in-law. We returned via the same route but leaving out Chicago. It's a great way to travel - we had a private compartment with bathroom accommodations and all our meals included in the one price! We loved it! We'll be doing it again - perhaps in the Spring. We'll fly up to Vancouver, pick up the train and ride the southern route of Canada all the way across to Niagra Falls. Can't wait!

I am a 2-time S U R V I V O R in life. The first time at 15 after a freak accident and the second, from ovarian cancer.  I recently move to Palm Desert paradise.  I love it here and feel as though I live 24-7 in a resort!  I am a native Southern California girl who loves the peace and quiet of the desert.  I am a movie buff, loving to see first-run movies at the local theater.  I enjoy the opera, ballet and theater.  Music is a must and jazz is what I love.  My hobbies are traveling the world, if you can say that.  At home, I am a scrapper.  I picked up this hobby 2 years ago as a "balm" for enduring chemotherapy/radiation treatments.  It kept my mind occupied as I had about 50 years of photos to catalog and scrapbook.  As a result, I was able to give to each of my 4 children, 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grand daughter, photo albums of their lives with me.  I still love making these scrapbooks and giving them away as gifts for all occasions.  I am a Real Estate Broker but no longer associated with any brokerage.  I had a long successful career (27 years!) selling and listing homes, providing mortgage financing for buyers, owning my own real estate company and being a manager for the past 15 years.  Cancer left me bewildered and questioning my abilities in management so have chosen to focus on acquiring my BS in Psychology and changing careers. I love life and plan to survive for another 65!
