    Places I've been
Canton, GA (Hometown), I've lived in Acworth since I was 14 and probably always will. I haven't traveled much in my life outside the southeast except one trip to Spokane, WA and a roadtrip north to Madison, WI just last month. My husband and I discovered St George Island, FL in 1989 and we spent all our vacations there until he died in 2002. Now I go there at least once a year with my sweet corgi Max. (Sometimes friends or family get to go with us too.)

    About Me

I was raised in the rural south.  I grew up poor but with a wealth of love from a large family of aunts, uncles, and lots of cousins on my Mothers side.  My Dad's family was from Ireland accounting for my red hair, freckles, stubborn streak, and love of beer!  I think I grew up pretty normally.  I don't feel like I missed out on anything even though my playground was the acres of woods surrounding our house.  My teenage years flew by and I married the love of my life in 1973, two years after I finished high school.  We were blessed with two wonderful sons who rarely gave us anything to worry about - such a blessing.  They are both married now with homes and lives of their own.  Fortunately, they both live within 15 miles of "Mom".  My oldest son and daughter-in-law have blessed me with two granddogs and two grandcats.  My youngest son and daughter-in-law have blessed me with a grandson, Riley (3) and a granddaughter, Scarlett (6 months).  What a wonderful thing grandchildren are!!

I have been a mail carrier on the same route for the past 22 years.  I can't believe it's been that long.  I love my job and the sweet customers I have on my route.   Some of them have been there the whole time.  Others I have gotten to know only recently but most of them are wonderful people.  They were so supportive when my husband was diagnosed with lung cancer and they were always inquiring about him and his treatments.  They were like family to me when he died in 2002.  He was just 52 years old and I still miss him every day.

As for my interests, I think most of them died with my husband.  We played tennis on ALTA and USTA teams year-round for about nine years but I just can't seem to find the time to get back into tennis.  We had a bassboat and used to fish a lot but now I only fish about twice a year when I get the chance to go to Florida or the coast of Alabama with friends.  I'm afraid I have just awakened to find that my life has become very small!

    Seasonal fruits & vegetables

Who in your life is going back to school?

    No one

If you were a contestant on Jeopardy what would be your dream trivia category?

Rock and roll from the 60's and 70's or current country music. It's "country" music - not country western - western was dropped sometime ago!

Do you own a cell phone? If yes, how long have you owned one?

    1 to 3 years

What is your favorite family dinner?

I guess it would have to be Thanksgiving since that is the one time that I know "all" my family will be here. I have been doing Thanksgiving at my house for the last 20 years or so. Turkey and dressing with cranberry sauce and all the fixin's say "love" to me. I don't think the food matters. If we were having a traditional dinner of pork chops, pintos, and collard greens with cornbread the meaning would be just the same. We love each other more than anything!

    Who are your heroes?

All the women who have to work to support a household because men have so screwed up the world that one income can no longer support it.

What is the most important reason for dating?

    Enjoy meeting new people

Who is the most interesting person you have ever met?

My wonderful husband of almost 30 years, Alan. I was never tired of sharing my entire being with such a caring, smart, loving person. He always knew what to do when things went wrong. He was a mechanical genius. He was also a "father" who could "fix" a little boy's dream and his soulmate's heart. I miss him every day and will never forget what a great "hero" he was to his family.

    Computer/electronic games

Now that you are over 50, what are you doing that you never thought you would?

Living alone with a dog in the house - who is my closest companion. I also have a cat who is running a very close second. Since my husband is gone, I have learned to use the chainsaw and woodsplitter. We have had a Buckstove insert in the fireplace since we built the house to save on gas. Old habits are hard to break and I do love a warm house. So, I cut, split, and stack my own firewood for the winter. Thank goodness it's the SOUTH!!

What is your favorite type of music?

    Country Western

    What is your dream vacation?

I love St George Island. I could spend the rest of my life on the east end of the island where there are no houses, condos, etc. Not really, I love modern conveniences. The Gulf Coast if accessible to me so that is where I love to go. The ocean is so amazing. I don't have dreams of traveling overseas to Asia, Europe, or even Australia - well maybe Australia. I would love to see the Australian Open when it's summer there and cold here! Anyway, I love the breeze, sand and waves on the Gulf.

AARP National Association of Rural Letter Carriers

    Men look most attractive in:

    Jeans & T-shirt

    Where were you born?

Kennestone Hospital, Marietta, GA. My folks lived there for a short while. My grandfather had a stroke and my Mom and Dad moved in with my grandparents to help take care of him in Canton, GA. So I grew up in Cherokee County.

    $3.56 - $4.00

    • That sounds like a lovely weekend. I work for the local parks & rec. and we had a huge fireworks and concert last night. It was a long day, but fun. I hope you have a good week. Tena
